Which bridges will be built by Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City?

2603-2024
Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai are actively discussing to soon have a plan to build Cat Lai Bridge - a bridge that has been planned for more than 20 years but until now the bridge is still on paper. Besides this project, there will be two more bridges to connect Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai.

The bridge to replace the Cat Lai ferry connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Nhon Trach (Dong Nai) has not been built for decades

At the 4th Conference on Cooperation and Exchange between localities in the Southeast region, in the first quarter of 2024, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai continued to have opinions on plans to build bridges between the two locals.

With the Cat Lai bridge project, after many discussions, the two sides agreed on the route of the Cat Lai bridge construction project according to the approval of the Prime Minister, with a scale of 6 lanes.

The Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects in Dong Nai province recently also signed and approved the task of surveying, designing, and estimating costs to prepare a Pre-Feasibility Study Report.

Accordingly, Cat Lai Bridge will be invested in a public-private partnership, a BOT (build - operate - transfer) contract. According to the decision, Cat Lai Bridge is a group A project and belongs to a special-level project. Therefore, the pre-feasibility study report must be consistent with the development planning of the transport sector as well as land use, compensation plans, clearance...

Regarding the construction time of Cat Lai bridge, Ho Chi Minh City side believes that it should be built after 2030. In the period 2026 - 2030, Ho Chi Minh City will implement and put into operation Cat Lai - Phu Huu - Belt 3 route.

However, the leaders of Dong Nai province still maintain the view that this important project will be completed before 2025.

Specifically, at a recent conference, Dong Nai province asked Ho Chi Minh City to consider and prepare a pre-feasibility study report for the project in 2024 and start construction in 2025. The goal is to reduce traffic pressure in the two localities when Long Thanh Airport comes into operation.

Nhon Trach Bridge on Ring Road 3

In addition to Cat Lai Bridge, after many meetings, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City have also agreed on a plan to build two more bridges.

Specifically, Dong Nai 2 bridge will connect Long Thanh district with Thu Duc city. The bridgehead is expected to connect Belt 3 at Go Cong intersection - a branch road from Xa Lo Ha Noi (Long Thanh My ward, Thu Duc city); The endpoint connects DT 777B road (Tam An commune, Long Thanh district). The bridge scale is 6 lanes, investment period 2026-2030.

Phu My 2 Bridge connects Nhon Trach district through District 7 in the south of Ho Chi Minh City. The project follows Hoang Quoc Viet Street (6 lanes) and then connects to the branch with Nguyen Luong Bang route. After that, the bridge connects to Nguyen Huu Tho Street (there will be 4 lanes from Nguyen Luong Bang to Nguyen Huu Tho).

Dong Nai proposed that Ho Chi Minh City supplement the planning of roads to the bridge. It has 8 lanes to unify Provincial Road 25C in the period 2026 - 2030.

Currently, the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai is mainly through National Highway 1, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, and Cat Lai ferry connecting Thu Duc City (former District 2) with Nhon Trach. However, these traffic routes are currently overloaded and cannot meet traffic needs shortly.

Currently, the Nhon Trach bridge project on Ring Road 3 is expected to be a solution to connect Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai.

This bridge was started in September 2022 with a length of more than 2km, a width of 19.75m, and a path leading to both ends of the bridge 560m long. Total investment is more than 1,800 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed in April 2025.

Nhon Trach Bridge not only solves traffic problems between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai but also helps improve the infrastructure of Long An, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Binh Duong provinces.
