According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, this unit is completing research documents and preparing to report to the City People's Committee. The goal is to submit the investment policy of Can Gio Bridge to the People's Council for approval at the last meeting of 2023.

Previously, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai in a conversation with Can Gio district people also said that this project will be submitted to Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in December.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to start the project in 2025 and complete it in 2028.

According to the pre-feasibility study report, the private unit is offering two groups of options for the Can Gio bridge route as follows:

The group from Huynh Tan Phat axis across Soai Rap river includes:

Option 1: The path starts from Huynh Tan Phat street and follows Phu My Thuan apartment building. When you reach Phu Xuan Secondary School, turn right to follow factory X51 of Hai Minh Shipbuilding and Repair Company Limited. After that, the bridge will span Soai Rap River (intersection with Long Tau River). The road continues through the residential area to the right of the Binh Khanh ferry and then connects to Rung Sac road and Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.

Option 2: The road starts from Huynh Tan Phat Street and then turns towards Nguyen Binh Street to Ba Chua Xu temple area. The road will continue to follow the riverbank towards Nha Be and the bridge span will span Soai Rap River, and the island of Binh Khanh commune (near Cha river). The road runs parallel to Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway to Rung Sac road.

Option 3: The road starts from Huynh Tan Phat street and goes next to Phu My Thuan apartment building. When you arrive at Phu Xuan Secondary School, move to the right of Ba Chau Doc 2 temple. The next section follows the same route as option 2.

The group of options following Road 15B (Road 17 in Phu Xuan residential area) includes:

Option 2A: Going along Road 15B, when passing Muong Ngang canal, turn left towards Duong Van Duong High School and continue to Ba Chua Xu Temple. From here, the alignment coincides with option 2 (above).

Option 4A, 4B: Can Gio bridge project has a total length of 7.3 km. The bridge will go along route 15B, 500 m from Muong Ngang Canal, then cross Nguyen Binh Street, and then cross Soai Rap River. In Can Gio, the bridge will connect to Rung Sac road at a location 2.5 km south of Binh Khanh ferry. The difference between options 4A and 4B is the road location at the riverbank on the Nha Be side.

In the above options, the consulting unit proposes to consider implementing the project according to options 4A and 4B. This is also the previous plan chosen by the City People's Committee and approved by the Prime Minister to supplement traffic in the area.

Billion dollar project

Can Gio Bridge is a significant infrastructure project to connect the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the city's island district. Currently, traveling mainly via Binh Khanh ferry is overloaded and takes a lot of time.

Can Gio Bridge is the only sea-facing gateway of Ho Chi Minh City and has a lot of potential for development. However, it has not really developed socio-economically, because the transport infrastructure is not adequate.

Can Gio island district

Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee determines that by 2030, Can Gio district will basically become a high-quality resort and eco-tourism city.

The construction of Can Gio Bridge can be seen as a step to "awaken" many billion-dollar projects that have been and are being considered for investment planning here.

There is a tourist urban area with a scale of 2,870 hectares with a total investment of more than 217,000 billion VND.

Or the project of great interest is Can Gio international transshipment port in Cu Lao Phu Loi area (Thanh An commune, Can Gio district).

This project has an investment capital of up to 5.5 billion USD with the participation of the world's largest container shipping company - Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

According to the proposed consulting unit, the project is expected to start construction in 2024 and be implemented in 7 phases. The superport is to be completed in 2045, it will have 7.2km of wharf, and can receive the largest container ship in the world today (24,000 TEU), with a throughput capacity of 10 - 15 million TEU. The project is expected to create jobs for about 6,000 - 8,000 workers. Therefore, it will contribute directly to the budget through taxes and fees estimated at 34,000 - 40,000 billion VND/year.
